The Pacific Union established in 1901 oversees the operation and administration of the churches within its territory, which includes seven conferences in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah, and 220,000 Adventist members worshipping in approximately 650 churches.
Building on the pilot projects that were undertaken in Takoma Park, MD, Orlando, FL, and Pasco, WA, a full pilot of a community-based event took place on August 22-24, 2024, at the San Bernardino Community Seventh-day Adventist Church (SBCSDA). This inaugural pilot event was developed as a community engagement initiative to explore and share the concept of Sabbath observance as relevant to everyone, regardless of their spiritual or religious background.
The event was developed in collaboration with the Pacific Union Conference, Southeastern California Conference (SECC), Southern California Conference (SCC), Arizona Conference (AZC), Advent Source, Pacific Press, SermonView, Versacare Foundation, Journey Films, and the Andrews Center for Community Change.
The festival uses the film SABBATH by Martin Doblmeier as the central narrative framework, fostering interfaith dialogue and reinforcing the spiritual and social relevance of Sabbath in today’s world.
The *Festival of SABBATH* successfully positioned Sabbath as important to all people , fostering interfaith relationships and strengthening Adventist outreach. With clear next steps and strategic partnerships, the festival will continue to develop as a powerful platform for church and member growth and community engagement.
